LAL | Toronto, ON
For over two decades, Polaris Prize–longlisted Toronto duo LAL; Bengali-rooted vocalist and activist Rosina Kazi and Barbados-born producer Nicholas “Murr” Murray, have built a catalogue of silvery, internationally influenced electronica that insists the dancefloor remain a site of resistance and renewal.
Formed in 1998, LAL is a legacy Canadian electronic collective known for fusing dub, soul, Bengali folk, Caribbean traditions, and experimental sound with urgent social and political consciousness. Their music interrogates migration, queer/trans liberation, colonial violence, and belonging, while imagining new worlds of joy, safety, and collective healing. Deeply rooted in Toronto’s activist and arts communities, LAL continues to transform sound into social dialogue, building space for movement, spirit, and resistance through rhythm and connection.
“a dangerous thing”
Release date: June 18, 2026
Genre: POP, Singer/Songwriter
“A Dangerous Thing” is a contemporary pop song about the raw power of collective listening; when sound, emotion, and presence collide. This is the second single from LAL’s upcoming album; breaking from their previous offering “Shadows Of Your Dreams”, this single offers a release of anger and grief into joy. “Murr” opens slowly, layering a reminiscent hip-hop beat with warm vocals by “Rosina Kazi” and expressive violas by “Folke” weaving in moments of soft release, inviting you to sink into the tension and let go, one breath at a time.
Special thank you to Fran Chudnoff also known as Francesca, Franz, Franny (they/them) @franznfriends for bringing this song to life. Franny is a non award winning millennial, with a BFA in performance, and paying rent as a multidisciplinary artist. They are a dance maker, reluctant video artist, photographer, and a true beginner at 3D modelling and digital illustration. Their work is in conversation with post-internet aesthetics, gender deviance, and shaping a “social aura” through aspirational imagery and tampering the mundane. Fran embraces the complexity of millennial tropes by blending sincerity and cringe. For the past few years, Franz has been performing and touring “Make Banana Cry” — co-created by Andrew Tay and Stephen Thompson. MBC has had critically acclaimed performances at Impulstanz (Vienna), Portland Institute of Contemporary Art and Festival TransAmériques (Montreal). Their most urgent project is to share as many meals with their Lola as possible, but you probably know them best from their work on @facerider

“Shadow of your dreams”
Release date: April 18, 2026
Genre: Experimental, Ambient
The track channels Mino-bimaadiziwin, an Anishinaabe concept meaning "to live in a good way," emphasizing relational well-being over individual escape. It's the first glimpse of an album forged not in isolation but in deep collaboration with chosen family: multidisciplinary artist Ange Loft, musicians V and Ian de Souza, filmmakers Jose Garcia and Jaek Eastcott, and Jaws, whose care and coordination holds the work together. The process mirrors the message: art, like survival, is something we do together.
"Shadows" arrives as LAL launches a new chapter with LA-based distributor GRRRL Music and publicist Pineapple Express Media—a fitting alignment for a duo whose work has always centered voices from the margins. The partnership signals growing international recognition for LAL's distinctive blend of experimental electronic music and community-grounded practice.

LAL | LIVE
Experiencing LAL live is not merely a concert, it is a full-body immersion into a world built on care and resistance. The duo transforms any space into a sanctuary where pulsing low-end frequencies become a physical heartbeat, and Rosina Kazi’s intimate vocals wrap around you like a trusted embrace. Between songs, moments of shared breath and spoken reflection invite the audience into a collective practice of listening and feeling. Visual projections by their chosen family of filmmakers bathe the room in textured light, creating an environment where queer, BIPOC, and disabled bodies can occupy space fully and freely. To witness LAL live is to step out of the shadows and into a temporary community where love is not just sung about, it is practiced, together, in real time.
